Comex - Now More than just a Comic Viewer!!

harish — Mon, 01/15/2007 - 22:02

When I started this project, my intention was not just to create a Comic Reader though it was my first priority. Having a large collection of comics, I also wanted some application using which I could manage the comics. As usual I first searched for it, and didn't find any. So once I was done with the basic comic reader, I thought of adding an organizer to it. This is where I was really pleased with myself for having started the application as an Eclipse plug-in.

Had I written this application as a standalone application, I am pretty sure I would have been into a lot of trouble to change my code, modify its design etc. But since it is an Eclipse plug-in, all I had to do was write another plug-in for organizing the comics, and combine this with my comic viewer plug-in to create a single Comex feature. This time in addition to the comex plug-ins, a standalone Comex application which is basically an Eclipse RCP is also available.

The Comics Organizer is a view in Eclipse, that can be accessed using the Window -> Show View option. It is there by default in the RCP application. I am pretty sure it is nowhere close to being bug free. Also a lot of features can be added on to it. It would be helpful to have suggestions on what can be done. I will guarantee that the all suggestions will be taken into account, but unfortunately due to time constraints, cannot guarantee by when it will be completed.

The linux version of the RCP has been tested on Ubuntu Edgy 6.10. If there are any problems with other versions of linux, please let me know. In the mean time if you find any issues or bugs, feel free to report them here. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Works great

sir the rcp app works great. i also liked the icon and the splash screen Smile here are some of the issues. when I open a comic, via open dialog, i see only cbz, rather i would like to see all the supported types once i open a comic, probably an option to add the same to one of the categories add comic doesn't allow me to add, until i fill all the boxes, publisher probably is not mandatory add folder and i selected c:\ - eclipse not responding Smile refresh option needed, after i delete a folder, sometimes its still in the workspace. multiple folder selection/delete doesn't work , deletes only one folder.
